Creating a Healthier Home with HomeLab

I wrote this post on behalf of HomeLab and received compensation to thank me for my time.  All opinions are my own.

I never used to be worried about the health of my home, not until after my newborn daughter and I got sick.  It was one of the scariest times in my life and I’m so thankful that it wasn’t any worse.  But that scare woke me up.  I took baby steps to improve the health of our home to keep my family safe.

Doctors are always reminding us to stay healthy by eating right and exercising.  But having a healthy home is just as important as having a healthy body.  Our home should be a place of safety, however, it is estimated that 90% of homes contain toxic dust and 2-5 times more polluted then outdoor air.  Yikes!  Until now, homeowners were on their own trying to identify and solve these problems.

Free HomeLab Ebook

HomeLab is trying to help individuals and families be more natural and environmentally friendly in a low-cost way. They have created a free ebook to help educate families on the harms of the toxicity and the steps to create a healthy home.

The Belle of Bravery Children’s Book + Giveaway

I wrote this post on behalf of Bible Belles and received Abigail The Belle of Bravery to thank me for my time.  All opinions are my own.

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of the word bravery?  For me, I think of the men and women who have fought on the front lines for our country.  Or selfless first responders and the people who have triumphed during life’s threatening times. But being brave doesn’t mean you have to be a hero.  Our little girls are faced with difficulties every day. They have many opportunities to show their bravery.

The Bible Belles just released their third book in the Adventures of Rooney Cruz series, Abigail – The Belle of Bravery.  My daughter and I fell in love with the first two books, Hannah – The Belle of Prayer and Esther – The Belle of Patience.  The series is teaching my daughter that she doesn’t have to conform to what the world wants of her, but instead, she learns to make a different kind of noise.

Abigail – The Belle of Bravery

In the new book, “Abigail,” Rooney is faced with a difficult choice after a tough afternoon with her brother and neighborhood boys.  Can she be brave enough?  Mari, Rooney’s personal angel, takes her on a journey through the story of Abigail.  She learns that she can call upon God to face any situation with bravery and confidence.  Take a peek!

The Author of Bible Belles

Erin Weidemann is the author of the Bible Belle series.  As a teacher and sports coach for many years, she has seen the struggles and insecurities of young girls.  They are constantly trying to fit in with the world’s standards.  But Erin wanted something different for her daughter – and all girls.  She wanted real heroes and a weapon for parents to battle back against the noise.  So Bible Belles was created.  Bible Belles is a wonderful series to help celebrate God’s beauty and mighty purpose.

Purchase and Giveaway

You can purchase Abigail – The Belle of Bravery or any of the Bible Belle books at BibleBelles.com for $14.99 each.  Bible Belles is also giving you an opportunity to win a copy of “Abigail” for your sweet tiny blessing.  Simply fill out the Rafflecopter form below to enter. Parenting 14 Gospel Principles + Giveaway

I wrote this post on behalf of Flyby Promotions in exchange for the book, Parenting 14 Gospel Principles.  All opinions are my own.

Have you ever felt the pressure from family members, friends or even complete strangers as to how to raise your children the “right” way?  Everyone has their opinion, right?  (I’ve been known to give unsolicited advice in the past).  It’s so easy to forget what our ultimate purpose for parenting is.  Let us not forget that there is no perfect formula that works for every family. Every one of us is unique and so are our children and families.  I once read a blog post on Proverbs 31, that reminded me that I was not meant to raise a good, rule following child.  My purpose was to raise a God following adult.  The book, Parenting – 14 Gospel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family expands on exactly that – raising God following adults.

Paul Tripp, the author of Parenting, gives us a big picture view of what God’s plan for us is as parents.  He outlines 14 foundational principles from the gospel, giving us more than a to-do list on how to raise our children.  But rather how God’s rescuing grace shapes our hearts into how we parent.

My Thoughts On Parenting

This book has been a huge blessing for me in this season of life (raising a toddler and an independent kindergartner).  It’s helped me to change my reactions with my children and to view parenting in a different light.  Am I trying to gain temporary control over my children or am I helping them to be what God wants them to be?  It’s also helped me to brush off other’s negative comments on the way I raise my kids and has reminded me that only God’s judgements matter.  I’m not a perfect parent by any means.  No one is except our heavenly Father.

Purchase and Giveaway

You can purchase the same book I received for $16.30 on Amazon.  Flyby Promotions is giving you a chance to win a copy of Parenting – 12 Gospel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family.  Simply fill out the Rafflecopter form below to enter.  This giveaway is open to US residents only.  You are not eligible to win if you have received a prize from FlyBy in the past 30 days.

Good Good Father Children’s Book + Giveaway

I reviewed Good Good Father on behalf of Tommy Nelson.  All opinions are my own.

There have been times in my life where I have been mad at God.  I’ve asked, “where are you?” and “how can you let this happen?”  On the contrary, there have been so many times when I’ve said, “how did I get so blessed?”  When the song, Good Good Father was released, it changed my whole relationship with God.  It helped me to understand more, even in the most painful of times, who He really is.  For me, He is gentle, loving, kind and caring.

Good Good Father, a new children’s book, has just been released.  I knew I had to get my hands on it and share it with my daughter.  Because I want her to have a deeper understanding of who God is.  And that’s exactly what this book does.  It’s the perfect depiction of his gentle, loving care.

Good Good Father

About the Book

Good Good Father tells a story about a little bear named Tucker who wants to help his friends.  He’s on a journey to find the perfect gift for the king, when his life is changed forever. Tucker learns just how great the King’s love is as he experiences His love for himself. Gorgeous art work paired with a meaningful and powerful story, will reassure your child just how loved they are by the good, good Father.

About the Authors

Chris Tomlin is one of the most well-known and influential musical artist.  His music include How Great Is Our God, Amazing Grace and Good Good Father.  It is estimated that 20-30 million people sing one of Tomlin’s songs in worship each week.  Above all else, Chris loves to be a husband and daddy to his 2 girls.

Pat Barret is also a husband and father.  He is a songwriter and worship leader based out of Atlanta, Georgia.  Pat is a worship pastor  of Grace-Midtown Church and cowriter of the #1 song, Good Good Father.  Pat also travels with Housefires, a worship expression based out of the Atlanta area.

My Thoughts

My daughter loves that a song she sings to on the radio has been turned into a storybook. We have read this book almost every night since we received it.  She is learning that God is her protector, teacher, healer and completely loves her.  The book teaches it in just the kind-hearted way I want her to know of God.

Where to Purchase Good Good Father

You can purchase the same book Big C received from Faith Gateway Store for $16.99.  The book is geared towards boys and girls from 4 to 8 years old.  Tommy Nelson is giving you the opportunity to win a copy of Good Good Father.  Simply fill out the Rafflecopter form below to enter.  Don’t forget to stay connected with Tommy Nelson on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest for all their latest products, discounts and giveaways!

One Big Turkey Children’s Book + Giveaway

Disclosure: I wrote this review of One Big Turkey on behalf of Tommy Nelson.  All opinions are my own.

One of my son’s favorite stories is One Spring Lamb written by Anne Vittur Kennedy.  She has a new book out that is similar, except it’s related to fall and Thanksgiving.  I can’t tell you how many times we’ve read this book over and over.  Little M is definitely thrilled to have another book like his favorite because enjoys counting so much. This one is called One Big Turkey and it’s been a big hit.

One Big Turkey

About One Big Turkey

You can count your blessings with your child as you read along together with One Big Turkey. The beautiful, board book makes counting an enjoyable learning experience. The rhyming text will take you and your child on a fun, Thanksgiving adventure.

About the Author

Anne Vittur Kennedy loves the quiet space of her studio and lives in Ohio with her husband, Jack; her dog, Brody; and her horses, Sitka and Frisco.  Similar books she has written, include One Shining Star (perfect for the Christmas season) and One Spring Lamb (related to Easter).

My Thoughts

Even though the book is geared towards children 0-4 years old, there are many sight words that my 5-year-old picked up on.  This book is perfect for the upcoming Thanksgiving season. I love that it’s a board book.  It makes it very hard for my kids to accidentally (or on purpose) rip the cover or pages. You can purchase the same book we received for $8.99 at Faith Gateway Store.

Tommy Nelson is giving away a copy of One Big Turkey to one blessed reader.  Use the Rafflecopter form below to enter.  Don’t forget to stay connected with Tommy Nelson on Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter.  This giveaway is open to US residents only.  Good luck!

Baby, Baby! Children’s Book + Giveaway

Disclosure:  I wrote this post on behalf of Propeller Consulting.  All opinions are my own.

My husband and I decided long ago that we only wanted two children.  As my littles start to grow out of the baby stages and move into independence, sometimes I get a bit sad.  As the cliche goes, they grow up so fast.  I miss the baby snuggles, tiny clothes and watching them master new skills.  But the things I don’t miss, is the cries (from both me and baby) and the sleepless nights.  We are very blessed, because we will have a sweet, baby niece soon.  I can’t wait to love on, snuggle her and read to her.  I’m looking forward to giving her a new book called Baby, Baby! written by Diane Stortz.

About Baby, Baby!

Baby, Baby! is a sweet, colorful board book that appeals to their interests, such as looking at books, other babies and their flowering abilities.  This short, rhyming poem applies all three in a sweet and happy way, while introducing baby to God’s love for them.  The simple words are paired with colorful images of babies engaging in familiar activities.  And it ends with a reminder that baby is always loved by God.

My Thoughts

The illustrator, Allie Busby, did a fantastic job with creating a diversity of babies throughout the book.  The mirror at the end of the book makes it personalized as well.  This is a fun and captivating book, that perfectly describes God’s love for your baby.  You can purchase Baby, Baby on Amazon for $7.99.

Win a Copy of Baby, Baby!

Many thanks to Propeller Consulting, LLC for providing a prize for the giveaway.  Only one entrant per mailing address, per giveaway.  If you won a prize from our sponsor in the last 30 days, you are not eligible to win.  This giveaway is open to US residents only.

Seven Years with This Guy

It’s been seven years since we stood over 10,000 feet high, in front of God’s beautiful mountain canvas, to say “I do!” And it’s been a breeze ever since.  I’m totally kidding.  As any married couple can attest to, marriage is hard work.  I mean, as individuals, we are constantly growing and changing in all areas of our life.  And it’s the same for couples.

Seven Years

I look back and think about who I was seven years ago.  I felt excited for our future but I could have never imagined what our story would look like.  We’ve had so many blessings, challenges, changes and moves.  Each of which has helped me to grow closer to my husband, but also has drawn me closer to Christ.

I just want to brag on my husband for a little bit.  He is an extremely hard worker.  He has been the sole financial provider for most of our marriage, sometimes working more than one job at a time.  This has allowed me to be able to stay at home with my kids.  Though I’ll admit, sometimes I feel guilty for not being able to provide financially or feel like I don’t have much of a purpose.  But let’s get back to my husband.

He makes me laugh so hard, I cry

He is a great dad

He is loyal, trustworthy and faithful

He meal plans and cooks dinner (yes ladies, almost every night.)

He cleans the bathrooms (along with many other household chores)

He forgives easily and says he’s sorry

He loves me in sickness and in health

And that’s about it.  No, just kidding!  I could go on and on.  But I won’t get too mushy on you. My prayer is that we grow stronger as a couple.  That nothing will divide us and that we keep Christ at the center of our marriage.  I thank God daily for him (especially when he comes back from business trips, ha!)

We are Surviving Kindergarten

A month ago, I had felt completely prepared and excited.  I had no idea my emotions would flip flop so quickly.  All of a sudden, I didn’t know what to expect or how to let go.  Yup, my daughter, my first born, let go of my hand and stepped right into kindergarten.  I wasn’t sure I could walk out that door or leave her behind in such a big and new environment.  The emotions I was feeling hit hard and quick.  Surviving kindergarten is a little more then I presumed.

Surviving Kindergarten

But we did it!  We survived the first day (and half week) of kindergarten.  Big C loves kindergarten more then weekends.  What?!  Who is this child?  I hope her passion for learning never ends.  My prayer is that she excels and never struggles in learning, but catching on to knew concepts comes easily.

The first half week of kindergarten wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies, though.  Well, maybe the butterflies part is true.  Because we both had them in our tummies.  We are still getting used to the new schedule, traffic and procedures.  As Big C waits for mommy to pick her up after school, her nerves get the best of her.  So we’ll try something different this week and see how it goes.

I can’t even describe how proud I am of my daughter.  Her teacher has told me that she’s a pleasure to have in class, a great listener and wonderful role model for the kids around her.  I cried tears of happiness when I read those words.  I hope she keeps it up, because at this rate, she is definitely surviving kindergarten.

Surviving Kindergarten

Surprisingly, her energy level is still sky high by the time she gets home.  I thought for sure she would curl up on the couch and rest or fall asleep once she walked in the door.  Nope, she is more like the energizer bunny.  Thankfully, she crashes at bedtime and is ready to conquer a new day in the morning.

Did your children (and you) survive the first of Kindergarten?
