A New Year’s Prayer

Lord, this year I want to change,
and I’ve said that in the past.
But now my prayer is different,
’cause I understand at last.
I wanted my own way before,
I ignored your loving plans.
But now I’m putting everything
into your nailed-scarred hands.
I promise to obey you
out of gratitude and love.
I won’t be giving orders
to my Father up above.
I finally realized the truth
and so I’ve changed my prayer.
The safest place for me to be
is in your gentle care.
Please be my shepherd, Jesus,
that’s all I ask of you.
In good times and in bad this year,
take my hand and lead me through.
Amen.

Christmas Memory 2011

Earlier this month, we traveled to Florida to celebrate Baby C’s 1st birthday with family and friends.  So for Christmas, we had a nice, quiet day as a little family.  Or so I thought it was going to be quiet.

It was Christmas Eve and we headed to church.  Since there was no child care provided that afternoon, Baby C sat with us during the service.  As the pastor asked us to bow our heads to pray, I held Baby C in my lap and closed my eyes.  All was silent except for the pastor praying for those who were seeking Our Savior this Christmas season.  And then it started.

My sweet, baby girl started blowing raspberries.  What started out softly, grew louder and louder.  My body began to shake with uncontrollable laughter.  And instead of praying for the lost, I was praying no one was looking at me.  And my brave husband reached over and stuck his finger in her mouth.  Our little girl sure is getting good at embarrassing us.  And I’m sure this is not the end.

Infancy to Toddlerhood

I’m a first time mommy, so every transition of my daughter’s life is so new to me.  Recently, Baby C turned 1.  No longer an infant, but a new, little toddler.  And so many changes have come with it.  She’s more independent now, but clingy at the same time.  She’s fighting her naps, but doesn’t know what to do with her crankiness.  And she’s working on her balance and taking those cute, little baby steps.  Baby C’s dance moves and singing are out of this world!  My husband and I just look at each other and laugh, wondering where she learns this stuff.

We started weening from the bottle and formula last week and replaced her two middle, day time feedings, with organic whole milk and a sippy cup.  Baby C has finally accepted drinking out of the sippy cup, but still won’t hold it herself.  I know she’ll do it in her time, not mine.  Just like everything else.  Meal times can be challenging.  The foods she loved yesterday are thrown on the floor today.  And I’m left to wonder if she’s getting enough to eat.

Even though I will miss the infant years, I am excited for all the fun we will have as Baby C grows and develops through her toddler years.  I can’t wait to hear her say her first words and run around with her on the playground!

Do you have any toddler tips for this mommy?  I’d love to learn anything from fun food recipes to games and activities that I can do with Baby C.

Sharing Shaklee {Week 3} Children’s Wellness

Our children are the most precious thing in the world.  And their health is extremely important to us.  But sometimes our children don’t always eat what they should.  25% of most children’s diets is junk food.  French fries are the most frequently consumed “vegetable.”  And many children have low blood levels of vitamin D.  No wonder so many children suffer from colds, asthma, ADD and ADHD.  That’s why a good nutrition program is so important.

For Infants and Toddlers: {ShakleeBaby Multivitamin and Multimineral Powder}  with 23 essential nutrients, it is the best infant and toddler multivitamin and multimineral supplement available.  It provides a unique blend of clinically tested prebiotics to help support strong immunity.  Each serving meets the American Academy of Pediatrics’ recommended daily intake of 400 IU of vitamin D for strong bones and teeth.  It can be used as an added source of nutrients during the transition phase from breast milk or formula to solid foods to insure your little ones get nutrients they need.  ShakleeBaby is a pleasant-tasting powder that mixes easily with water, juice or food for added nutrition.

For Children ages 2 – 12: {ShakleeKids Incredivites Multivitamin/Multimineral} contains lactoferrin, a nutrient also found naturally in breast milk and researched for it’s role in activating components of the immune system.  It is packed with 600 IU of vitamin D per serving for strong bones and teeth.  ShakleeKids provides 100% of the daily value of vitamin C, as well as, all 8 B vitamins, which are essential to children’s development and the function of major bodily processes.  No artificial flavors, sweeteners, or preservatives added.  It is naturally sweetened with xylitol, which does not promote cavities.  Incredivites is gluten free and comes in all-natural tropical punch, grape and berry flavors.

DHA for Children ages 2 -12:  {ShakleeKids Mighty Smart DHA Dietary Supplement}  DHA is important for brain development, mental acuity and eye development.  Most children are only getting 20-40% of the DHA they should from their diet.  Some of the very fish that are good sources of DHA are likely to be contaminated with mercury.  Mighty Smart provides 100 mg of ultra-pure, certified organic DHA in a chewable tablet with a delicious natural orange flavor.  Mighty Smart is Gluten free and contains no artificial colors, sweeteners or preservatives.

Do your children need the Shaklee Children’s Wellness Program?  Ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Do your children eat a good, nutritious breakfast every day?  (There is often a difference between what you serve and what they eat.)
  2. Do your children eat a variety of foods – including vegetables and whole grains?
  3. Do you know how much of your child’s daily calorie intake is in the form of “empty calories?”
  4. Do you know what your children eat when they are away from home?
  5. Do your children get a nutritious lunch each day?
If you answered “No” to any of these questions, there’s a good chance your child will benefit from the Children’s Wellness Program!  If you are interested in getting your child started on the wellness program, you can learn more or purchase these products on my Shaklee site: {EncouragingHealthy.MyShaklee.com}

Baby C’s First Thanksgiving
Dear Baby C,
We definitely had a rough start.  But we pulled through it together.  In just one short year, you have taught me so many life lessons.  From the miracle of birth to the miracle of God’s healing power.  From unconditional love to true strength.  You are the ultimate blessing in my life.  You make me laugh and smile on a daily basis.  And everyone who meets you can’t believe how easy-going you are.  You are one special, little girl and I am looking forward to watching you grow.  Just like my mommy always to me, I say to you, thank you for being my daughter.
Prayers and hugs,
Mommy
